ALBANY MOTOR SPEEDWAY 2012 RULES FOR PURE STOCK

PURE STOCK

This division is open to any 1955 or newer sedan. NO station wagons or pick up trucks.

DRIVER ELIGIBILITY

A. Anyone without prior racing experience must be approved by A.M.S. to compete in Pure Stock Division.

WEIGHT

A. Stock OEM Production factory steel heads with aftermarket aluminum or cast Iron "intake" 3300 lbs with driver.

B. Crate engine 602. GM Crate engine must have GM or GM/RM seal bolts. 3200 lbs with driver.

C. Vortec heads 3300 lbs with driver.

D.  All weight minimums deduct additional 1 lb. per lap burn off

ENGINE

A. Only stock factory production V-8 or V-6 engines permitted. Engine must be mounted in original position, but may use after market or fabricated engine mounts.

B. GM (Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Chevy) 350 c.i.d., Ford 351 c.i.d. Chyrsler 340 or 360 c.i.d. engines must be stock bore and stroke. 0.60ths over bore permitted.

C. NO big blocks permitted.

D. Deck may be surfaced, but pistons may not exceed the top of block.   -0- deck permitted.

E. Racing oil pans permitted. Must be made of steel - NO aluminum.

F. NO engine interchanging. Car and engine must be same manufacturer.

G. Stock factory production steel or cast iron cranks ONLY. NO knife edging or lightening of cranks. Crankshafts must be stock stroke to size of engine. NO stroking or D stroking. Must weigh 48 lbs.

H. Engine balancing permitted.

I. Stock factory exhaust manifolds or chassis type collector headers. Headers must turn under firewall and have collectors. Must be economy style header. Must have Schoenfeld muffler Model # 112535 or other muffler that has adequate noise reduction and performance features.

PISTONS

A. Any flat top piston permitted.

B. No dome pistons permitted.

RODS

A. Stock length forged steel, I beam rods ONLY. (EX: Chevy 350 5.7") 3/8 rod bolt maximum. No H-bean rods. No Billet or exotic material connecting rods.

CYLINDER HEADS

A. Heads must be OEM production factory steel 461, 462, 492, 186, or 041.
Vortec or factory performance heads allowed. NO angle plug heads.  No bowtie heads.

B. NO porting, polishing, squaring, or epoxying of ports. Screw in studs or guide plates permitted. Rocker studs may be pinned. Any rocker arms and stud girdles allowed. 3 angle valve jobs permitted. All rocker arms must be standard stock ratio ex: GM 1.5.

C. Stainless steel valves allowed. Valve sized ...Chevrolet 350, Ford or Mopar 2.02" maximum intake & 1.65" maximum exhaust. Stock diameter valve stems. NO hollow stem valves.

D. Steel valve retainers and keepers ONLY. NO aluminum, titanium, or other exotic material retainer. Any valve spring.

E. No mismatching of Cleveland or Windsor heads.

F. Ford Production Iron Head Only.

G. Mopar Production Iron Head Only.

CAMSHAFT

A. Hydraulic flat tappet camshafts or solid flat tappet camshafts. No rollers or mushroom lifters. (Lifters must be stock diameter to make of engine. EX: .842" Chevy or .875" Ford)

INTAKE

A. Engines with OEM production factory steel heads 461, 462, 492, 041, 186 or any other stock production head may run any aftermarket aluminum intake.

B. Adapter plates permitted on Quadrajet style intake 1" thickness maximum.  Adapter plate only. NO Spacers.

C. NO porting, polishing, squaring, or epoxying of intake ports, plenom, or runners. NO milling or hogging out plenom.

D. NO carburetor spacers except Ford and Mopar stock cast iron intake permitted to run a 1" spacer.

E. Ford and Mopar may run any aluminum intake.

F. Vortec heads may run aluminum low profile intake. Edelbrock part# 2101, 2104, 2116, 2701, 2716, 7101, 7104, 7116. Weiand 8120, 8121 or GM 12366573 (same as 602 crate) may run intake that is equivalent to these intakes.  NO air gap intakes of vortec heads.

G. NO carburetor spacers permitted on any aluminum intakes.

H. May run OEM cast iron intake.

CARBURETOR

A. 3310 vacuum secondary Stock OEM production 4 barrel or any carburetor smaller with vacuum secondary. 1850 OK.

B. Choke horn may not be removed.

FUEL SYSTEM

A. Racing fuel cell required.

B. NO alcohol / NO Nitrous Oxide / Gas ONLY.

C. Sunoco blue or purple only. Fuel must not check (+) (-) 5 on electric fuel checker when calibrated with racing fuel.

IGNITION SYSTEM

A. Stock factory production electronic or breaker type ignition systems ONLY. Ford and Dodge allowed HEI type aftermarket distributor.

B. NO MSD's or after market ignition systems of any kind allowed. NO spark enhancing devices of any type allowed.

CLUTCH

A. Standard stock type single disc clutches ONLY. Must have diaphragm or finger type pressure plates ONLY.

B. 10" Steel flywheels ONLY. No drilling or lightening of flywheel allowed. 14 lb. minimum. Pressure plate 13.5 lb. minimum.

C. No aluminum flywheels, multi-disc clutches, or RAM couplers allowed.

D. Ford and Mopar may run 11" 15 lb. aluminum flywheel.

TRANSMISSION AND REAR END

A. Stock factory production manual or automatic transmissions ONLY. Automatic's must have stock type and size torque converters. NO lock ups or shut off valves allowed.

B. Stock factory production rear ends or floating axle rear ends. Axle tubes must remain stock length. No aluminum parts on or in rear end.

C. All frames must be completely STOCK from front clip to rear clip. NO altering, shortening, or interchanging of any kind.

D. Upper and lower control arms must be stock factory production control arms, and MUST be mounted in original locations with NO cutting, lengthening, shortening, or altering of any kind. NO interchanging. Front and Rear control arms. May run aftermarket upper control arms on front, must be mounted in stock location and have stock overall dimensions. Shocks must mount in stock location and utilize "T" type upper stock mounts.

E. Uni-body cars can be connected. Stock shape of uni-body may not be altered in any way.

F. NO reese bars, J-bars, torque links, or any other traction-enhancing device allowed.

G. Shocks must be mounted in stock location. Shock mounting brackets may be aftermarket or fabricated but must remain in stock location. Lower brackets on rear shocks only may be replaced with a heim joint. No aluminum shocks.

H. Stock type suspension ONLY. Leaf spring cars must have leaf springs ONLY mounted in original position. Coil spring cars must have springs mounted in stock location, and use stock trailing arms. Urethane bushings permitted   No sliders on rear coil spring cars.

I. Stock type brake systems ONLY. Dual master cylinders allowed. Dual master cylinders may NOT be driver adjustable.

J. May have weight jacks on rear.

BODY

A. Bodies may be stock steel or aftermarket fiberglass or aluminum. All body parts must be stock appearing in shape and size. All body parts must have same dimensions as stock.

B. Doors must be welded or bolted shut.

C. Quarter panels must remain in original position. Cars with raised quarter panels or deck lids will be ruled illegal.

D. After market nose pieces permitted. Nose pieces must match body.

E. 6" spoilers - no tabs on side.

F. Stock bumpers ONLY. No heavy pipe reinforcements behind bumper. Lightweight tube bracing ONLY allowed. NO push bars allowed in front of bumper.

G. Stock front firewall must be retained. Hulling permitted. Dashboard may be replaced with sheet metal. Complete bumper to bumper unibody must be retained. Uni-body may be tied together. Must have stock bumpers. No bump bars of any kind. May have radiator protection bar (cannot extend past front bumper).

H. Floor pan from firewall to rear of driver may be steel or aluminum on right side only.  No tunnels.

WHEELS AND TIRES
 
A. Any DOT tire or 8" racing tires. Hoosier Emod D40 26.5 or 27.5 or equivalent. Hoosier D30 and American Racer 8" x 15" tires OK.

B. No tire softeners permitted. Tires will be subject to durometer hardness test at any time to determine legality.

C. Steel wheels ONLY. 8" maximum width. NO aluminum wheels. Bead locks permitted. Wide 5 wheels and adapters OK, NO wide five hubs.

SAFETY

A. Approved helmet and full fire resistant driver's suit required.

B. All cars must have a minimum 2 lb. fire extinguisher mounted inside of car within easy reach of driver.

C. Racing seat required. Must have 3-point quick release type racing seat belt with shoulder harness 3" wide. Must be bolted to roll cage with minimum of 3/8" bolt.

D. Racing fuel cell required.
